UTA Education Program

Why teach about public transportation?

Utah’s population is growing. By 2030, it’s projected there will be 2.7 million people living in Utah’s metropolitan area. That’s over a million more people than there are here now. Those 2.7 million people are expected to make over 11 million trips each day. Think what that could do to traffic and pollution. UTA is Fun!

So what can we do about it? Build more highways and roads? Our geographic limitations along the Wasatch Front make that very difficult. The other solution is transit. By getting people out of their cars, we can make more efficient use of our resources and reduce pollution.

Students of today will become the workers, commuters and voters of tomorrow. Their decisions will determine the kind of communities we will live in. By learning about transportation choices and consequences, they’ll be better able to make those choices.

UTA comes to your classroom.

UTA’s School Outreach Representative will introduce children to the Utah Transit Authority and educate them how to use public transportation. The emphasis will be on safety, self-confidence and helpful UTA resources.

The goal of the presentation is to utilize positive reinforcement and classroom participation in order to achieve a fun-filled atmosphere that minimizes feelings of doubt and intimidation. We want the audience to leave excited about using public transit.Click here to see all of hte fun places that UTA can take you!

A first-hand experience on UTA.

One of the benefits of the presentation is the opportunity to experience a class field trip to the destination of your choice.* It’s on us!

*Field trip must be within the UTA service area.

How do I schedule my classroom field trip?

After you and your students have had the UTA presentation, you can schedule a field trip aboard a UTA TRAX train or bus. We’re excited to provide you with this opportunity to experience public transportation. All we ask is that you follow a few rules to help you have a fun and successful trip:

  • Plan your trip between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:00 pm.
  • Have your group at the bus stop at least 5 minutes before the scheduled departure time. This insures that you are prepared to board the bus when it arrives.
  • Your group should be no more than 35 people, including teachers, parents and students. If you have more than 35 passengers, please divide into two or more groups.
  • If you need help planning a trip or need any help with schedule times, you are welcome to call 1-888- RIDE-UTA (743-3882) or call the school presentation representative for your area (see below).

We look forward to seeing you onboard!

  • Invite a UTA School Outreach Representative to your class.
  • Learn all about buses, trains and light-rail and why they are so important to our community.
  • Discover all the fun places you can go on public transportation.
  • Find out how to ride safely.
