If your question is not answered here, please contact UTA customer service or e-mail wifi-support@rideuta.com.
Q. Is there a cost to use UTA’s WiFi Internet?
No, UTA’s WiFi is included as part of your express fare or Premium Express Monthly Pass. The only requirement is that you accept the “Terms of Internet Service Use”.
Q. How old do I have to be to use UTA’s WiFi Internet?
Only patrons who are 18 years of age or older are authorized to use this service.
Q. Is the WiFi network encrypted or require a passphrase for access?
No, UTA’s WiFi uses an unsecured network. However, you must be on board a bus in order for your wireless device to “see” the network.
Q. How secure is UTA’s WiFi network?
UTA’s wireless network is as secure as any other public open wireless network. The actual security of the connection will depend on the rider’s computer and the application he or she uses on their computer. You should use the same precautions while on UTA’s WiFi network that you would exhibit while using any other open wireless network.
Q. How do I connect UTA’s WiFi Internet?
- Turn on your laptop computer or handheld device.
- Enable your wireless radio (WiFi).
- Open your wireless connections from the taskbar and connect to the SSID named “UTA_WiFi”
- Wireless Privacy (WEP) should be set to “OFF”. No password is required.
- Launch your web browser. You will be redirected to the UTA splash page.
- Review UTA’s “Terms of Internet Service Use” and if you agree, click “Go”.
- You will be redirected to your preset Home Page.
Q. Why can’t I connect?
There are many reasons why you may be unable to connect to UTA’s WiFi Internet. First, reboot your computer and carefully follow the instructions above. If you are still unable to connect visit our Support page for additional troubleshooting tips.
Q. I see more than one available network. Which one should I choose?
UTA’s wireless network will always be identified by the “UTA_WiFi” service set identifier (SSID). If you see other available networks, but the “UTA_WiFi” one does not appear, please notify UTA customer service so that we can check the equipment when the bus returns to the garage.
Q. My device says it is connected to the WiFi network. Why I can’t browse/check e-mail/use my VPN?
You must accept the “Terms of Internet Service Use” before you will be allowed access to the Internet. Open a browser window to the UTA splash page, then click “Go” to accept the terms before attempting to access the Internet.
Q. I was connected and everything was working great; why did the Internet suddenly stop working?
Due to normal vehicle movement, signal strengths may vary and you may experience occasional loss of service. Wait a few minutes and try again.
Q. Does UTA’s WiFi Internet use a web filter?
Yes, UTA’s service providers use content-filtering software that attempts to restrict access to offensive sites; however, no content-filtering software is totally effective. Please use the same precautions you would use accessing any public wireless network.
Q. When I open my web browser, I get the flowing error: "ridernet.gw could not be found". What do I do?
This occurs when your computer uses multiple wireless networks and saves the wireless network settings across multiple networks. Each wireless network has different settings, and if your computer saves the settings, it may not function correctly on any given wireless network. To solve the problem, please reset or “repair” your wireless connection. On a mac, please create a new location under the “apple” logo.
