Working With UTA

What you need to know about working with the Utah Transit Authority

UTA is committed to improving and maintaining environmental quality through our environmental management system. To achieve and maintain higher environmental standards, UTA has committed to:
  1. Comply with federal, state and local laws
  2. Practice pollution prevention and waste minimization
  3. Reduce, reuse and recycle resources
  4. Ensure that design, construction and operation of UTA facilities and services consider environmental protection
  5. Continuously improve environmental practices

As a contractor, your activities may have the potential to positively or negatively impact UTA’s environmental management commitments.

UTA has identified activities that may have a higher potential to effect our environment. These activities include:

Combustion Sources

  • Air heating and supply
  • Mobile transportation, such as forklift or carts
  • Construction activities
  • Excavation or grading
  • Drilling or blasting
  • Rock crushing
  • Demolition
  • Welding or soldering
  • Painting
  • Asphalt paving
  • Use or storage of chemicals or fuels
  • Transfer of bulk materials
  • Disposal of chemical wastes
  • Disposal of general wastes
  • Storage tanks
Building maintenance activities
  • Architectural paint removal
  • Architectural painting
  • Hydroblasting
  • Sandblasting
  • Surface preparation/treatments, such as floors and roof repair
  • Purging or repair of distribution lines such as those for fuel, oil, or solvents
  • Use of chemicals, solvents, caustics, acids, oils, etc.
  • Use of herbicides, pesticides, or insecticides

Business or work-related activities

  • Use or receipt of chemical materials (other than janitorial or cleaning materials)
  • Generation and disposal of chemical wastes
  • Application of sealers, adhesives, coatings, or paints
  • Welding, soldering, brazing or similar activities
  • Use of caustics or acids
  • Use of combustion gases
  • Medical waste
  • Discharge to storm drains

As a contractor, you may be required to submit an Environmental Management Plan/Statement addressing specific measures you will take to reduce environment impacts and train your employees during the time that you are contracted to work for UTA.
